In 2024 Zimbabwe Leaf Tobacco (ZLT) decided to change from burning coal to wood chips, Wood Industry Supplies (WIS) was awarded the contact for the supply and commissioning of the new Haas Chipping Line consisting out of: 

▪ Haas Drum Chipper HTH 350 x 800 

▪ Infeed Belt Conveyor with metal detector 

▪ Scraper Conveyor for the outfeed of the chips into bunker 

▪ Scraper Conveyor to feed the chips into the boiler 

▪ Capacity 12 – 15tons per hour 

▪ Eucalyptus chips 25 to 35mm length 

WIS also supplied a Logdeck for the automatic feed of logs into the chipper. The Logdeck was sourced second-hand in Germany and modified to ZLT’s needs. 

All equipment was shipped in 3 x 40-foot shippers-own containers to Harare, Zimbabwe via Beira in Mozambique and arrived on site in May 2024. 

The installation was completed within 2 weeks by Haas Technician Maik Fisher and Volker Bächle and Chris Bächle from WIS. Good planning and support by ZLT as well as strict safety measures lead to the timeous completion of the project without any injuries. This was a great successful project and teamwork from both ZLT, WIS & Haas. 

Commissioning and Operator training was done in December 2024.
